Michael W. Brown
Michael W. Brown is the former Chairman of The Nasdaq Stock Market Board of Directors, a past governor of the National Association of Securities Dealers, and past Chief Financial Officer of Microsoft Corporation, where he was responsible for the company’s worldwide information technology, manufacturing and operations, finance and business development organizations. Prior to joining Microsoft, Mr. Brown worked eighteen years for the accounting firm Deloitte and Touche where he served as managing partner of the firm’s Seattle Emerging Companies Practice and their Bellevue practice office. Mr. Brown became a director of EMC in August 2005. Mr. Brown serves on several other boards, including VMware, Administaff Inc., Pipeline Financial Group Inc., FatKat Inc, 360networks, and Thomas Weisel Partners. He is also a member of the Particle Economics Research Institute. Mr. Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Washington in Seattle.
Michael J. Cronin
Michael J. Cronin is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Cognition Corporation, an engineering knowledge management company he led the acquisition of in 1993. He is a board member of Mass Tech Park Corporation, a state-owned high tech analysis and renewable energy company, and he is a Trustee of Northeastern University, where he chairs the Academic Affairs Committee. He became an EMC Director in May 1990. Mr. Cronin received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1961 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1963.
Gail Deegan
Gail Deegan is the former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Houghton Mifflin Company, a position she held at this leading publisher of textbooks and reference books from 1996 until 2001. She is currently Executive in Residence at both Simmons College School of Management and Babson College. Ms. Deegan has previously served on the audit committees of the boards of Houghton Mifflin, TJX Companies, Hartford Life, and EG&G. She became an EMC Director in July 2002. Ms. Deegan received a B.S. in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Rose in 1968, an M.A. in History from Ohio State University in 1969, and an MBA from Simmons.
John R. Egan
John R. Egan is a founding managing partner of Egan-Managed Capital, a Boston-based venture capital firm, and a director of several private companies and NetScout Systems, a provider of network and application performance management solutions. From 1986 to 1998, Mr. Egan served in a number of executive positions at EMC, including Executive Vice President, Products and Offerings; Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing; and Executive Vice President, Operations. Mr. Egan resigned as an executive officer of EMC in September 1998. He became an EMC Director in May 1992. Mr. Egan received a B.S. from Boston College in 1979.
W. Paul Fitzgerald
W. Paul Fitzgerald is the former Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer of EMC and retired as an EMC employee in 1995. He became an EMC Director in March 1991. Mr. Fitzgerald received his B.S. in Business Administration from Boston College in 1965.
Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo
Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo is President and CEO of Nokia Corporation, the world leader in mobile communications. Before his appointment to his current position, he was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Phones for Nokia from 2004 through September 2005. Mr. Kallasvuo joined Nokia in 1980 as an attorney, and has been a member of Nokia Group Executive Board since 1990. In 1992 he was named executive vice president and chief financial officer of Nokia Group. In 1997-1998 Mr. Kallasvuo served as corporate executive vice president, Nokia Americas and President, Nokia Inc., and was responsible for all Nokia's business operations in the Americas. He returned to the position of Nokia's Chief Financial Officer in January 1999. He became an EMC director in August 2004. Mr. Kallasvuo received his Master's degree in law from the University of Helsinki in 1976.
Edmund "Ted" F. Kelly
Edmund "Ted" F. Kelly the Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Mutual Group. Mr. Kelly was elected Chairman of Liberty Mutual in April of 2000. He joined the company in 1992 as President and Chief Operating Officer, and was elected Chief Executive Officer in 1998. Mr. Kelly has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Liberty Mutual Group since 1992. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America; he sits on the boards of the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, the Boston Private Industry Council, the American Ireland Fund, and the Insurance Information Institute; and he serves on various other community and education boards. In addition, Mr. Kelly is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He became an EMC Director in August 2007. Born in Ireland, Mr. Kelly graduated from Queen’s University in Belfast and obtained his Ph.D. in mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Windle B. Priem
Windle B. Priem is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Korn/Ferry International, a global executive recruiting company. After leading a successful public offering of the company in February 1999, Mr. Priem completed a three–year term as President and CEO in June 2001 and resigned as a director in November 2002. After 28 years of senior-level executive search experience, he now advises companies on management succession matters. Mr. Priem serves as a Trustee of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is a member of the Board of Overseers of Lahey Clinic. He became an EMC director in December 2001. Mr. Priem holds a BSME degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Babson College.
Paul Sagan
Paul Sagan is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Akamai Technologies, Inc. Mr. Sagan joined Akamai in October 1998 as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, was elected to the company's Board of Directors in January 2005, and became Chief Executive Officer in April 2005. During his career, he has led visionary technology and media companies; consulted with the World Economic Forum; and supported numerous corporate, civic and academic institutions. He is a member of the Dean's Council at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; an advisor to the MATCH charter public high school in Boston; and a member of the Presidential Advisory Council at Berklee College of Music. Mr. Sagan became an EMC director in December 2007. Mr. Sagan is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, serves as one of the University's Trustees and is Co-Chairman of Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism Board of Advisors.
David Strohm
David Strohm is a General Partner with Greylock Partners, one of the largest early-stage venture capital firms in the U.S. He has been with Greylock since 1980, and founded the company’s California office in 1983. He led Greylock's historic involvement with companies like Mentor Graphics, ccMail, Forte Software, Kiva Software, and Octane Software. Mr. Strohm is currently a board member of several private companies in which Greylock is a lead investor and a director of Internet Security Systems. Mr. Strohm was a director of Legato Systems from its founding in 1988 until its acquisition by EMC in 2003. He became an EMC Director in October 2003 and has been selected by the Board’s independent directors to serve as lead director, effective January 1, 2006. He received a BA from Dartmouth in 1970 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1980.
Joseph M. Tucci
Joseph M. Tucci is Chairman of EMC’s Board of Directors and has held this position since January 1, 2006. He has served as EMC's Chief Executive Officer since January 2001 and as EMC's President since January 2000. Prior to joining EMC, Mr. Tucci served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Getronics N.V., an information technology services company, from June through December 1999 and before that as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Wang Global from December 1993 to June 1999. Mr. Tucci is also a director of Paychex, a provider of payroll, human resources, and benefits outsourcing solutions. Mr. Tucci became an EMC Director in January 2001. He received a B.A. in Marketing from Manhattan College in 1968 and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University in 1984.
Thomas J. Dougherty – Secretary
Thomas J. Dougherty heads the Litigation Department in the Boston office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, where he has been a partner since 1984. Mr. Dougherty has been active in many of the major control contests and other court and SEC challenges to company disclosures and officer/director conduct in the past 20 years. He is the author of The Directors' Handbook. Mr. Dougherty became Secretary of EMC in June 1997. He received a B.A. from Holy Cross College in 1970, a B. Phil. in Economics from Oxford University in 1973, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1976.
